HP to Acquire Palm

Palm Logo

Ending weeks of speculation about its future, Palm has been acquired by Hewlett-Packard for $1.2 billion.

As such, it appears that Palm’s mobile operating system — webOS — has lived to fight another day, with Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein saying in a statement that “HP’s longstanding culture of innovation, scale and global operating resources make it the perfect partner to rapidly accelerate the growth of webOS.”

The survival of webOS and its parent company had come under question in recent weeks, with some analysts suggesting that shares of Palm were essentially worthless. Things only got worse when RadioShack decided to stop selling Palm’s two flagship devices: Pre and Pixi.

Ok so what does this have to do with Dating? There are a few dating sites like match.com that have developed applications for the Palm app store and while I would have assumed this was a total waste maybe there will be some saving grace in the time and money that was spent on development?

Will HP kill the brand off and incorporate their existing technology into their own devices or will Palm go on? Let us know your thoughts?

One Response to “HP to Acquire Palm”

  1. Kasey Tinnes Says:

I’ve had my Pre considering that shortly after launch and am glad to get (by means of this forum) that I can now set a ring tone on incoming text messages and can look for through e-mails and this kind of. Now is there any hope for an upcoming release where I can search my calendar? Would make my job significantly simpler, obtaining dates of final appointments. No other complaints, except that yesterday I used to be in and out of Sprint provider (not unusual). I consider I had been roaming, and looked at my calendar. Almost everything inside calendar was a single hour earlier than what I had input. The clock was just one hour early as properly. I was scared to death–then, when we got back into Sprint program once again, every thing was normalized. Has this happened to anybody else?? Seeking forward to answers, but please recall, I’m no techie and speak English rather than technospeak.
